A clear path forward: Maliasili 2026-2030 Strategic Plan Launched

Today, we’re excited to share Maliasili’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, a roadmap shaped by 15 years of learning alongside African organizations at the forefront of community-led conservation across the continent.

From our beginnings, Maliasili has existed for one clear purpose: to strengthen local organizations so they can achieve lasting conservation impact for people and nature.

This new strategy reflects both how far we’ve come and the choices we’re making about where to go next at this time of both urgency and opportunity.

A clear path forward to 2030

Looking ahead, our ambition is to help drive improved conservation and livelihood outcomes across at least 100 million hectares of community land and seascapes in Africa. To do that, we will focus on:

  • Strengthening over 100 high-impact African organizations, supporting their strategy, leadership, operations and communications.
  • Developing more than 400 African conservation leaders through cohort-based and country-level leadership programs.
  • Mobilizing at least $75 million in funding to support our partners’ work, prioritizing flexible, long-term investment and influencing the wider funding system to provide more and better funding to local organizations.
  • Scaling what works through a new Organizational Development Hub, sharing Maliasili’s tools, methods and learning with peer institutions so that effective, locally rooted organizational support reaches far beyond our portfolio and beyond Africa.

This strategy is grounded in our steadfast belief that strong local organizations are the engine of durable conservation impact and that now, more than ever, lasting change must be driven from the grassroots, from communities, and from civil society.

Stronger Together

We invite you to explore the full strategy and to continue walking this path with us – investing in people, strengthening institutions, and supporting the leaders shaping conservation’s future across Africa.
