More money, more influence, more impact →
Our Amplifying pillar is about shifting power and resources to local conservation organizations so they can lead and thrive.
We help our partners gain visibility, raise their voices, and have a real seat at the table where decisions are made.
At the same time, we work to change donor practices, pushing for more direct, flexible, and fair funding. Through initiatives like our pooled funding mechanism, we show what good funding looks like while securing more and better resources for our partners.
"Africans have the capacity to deliver. Let donors give us money and we will do well."
John Kamanga Executive Director, South Rift Association of Land Owners (SORALO), Kenya

Despite the talent, commitment, and impact of local organizations, the global funding architecture has made it exceedingly difficult for local organizations to increase their impact and set the agenda for the African community conservation space. Globally, Indigenous Peoples and local community organizations receive less than 1% of all climate funding. African organizations receive only around 10% of all private philanthropic funding invested across the continent.

Maliasili and partners have co-authored several reports to draw attention to key issues that present obstacles to our partners. In all of our reports, we place an emphasis on identifying recommendations to implement changes.
Pledges to Practice
Shifting conservation funding approaches to better support local African organizations.
Maliasili spearheaded the development of the Maliasili Conservation Fund (MCF) in order to 1) get more good money to local organizations; 2) to serve as a model for how we can improve funding practices for the better in the conservation space for both donors and partners. MCF is a pooled funding mechanism providing multi-year, unrestricted support to a portfolio of the best and brightest organizations in African conservation so that they can grow their organizations and their impact.
MCF investments support climate, wildlife conservation, local resource rights, and livelihoods, helping to spread innovative and high-impact models, with local roots and leadership at the helm of the African conservation narrative.
Putting community-conservation on the map, and African conservation leaders in the spotlight →
We want to see our partners increase their access to donors and decision-makers and amplify their voice and influence.
Through co-hosting events at international gatherings like Climate Week or the African Protected Area Congress we aim to support our partners not just as participants but as those voices driving the agenda.
We also convene our own events designed to engage partners and funders to explore ways to shift power to African conservation organizations through stronger partnerships and courageous leadership.
These efforts are part of our push to influence global funding systems so that more resources flow directly to outstanding local conservation organizations driving real change on the ground.
Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
