Uganda’s conservancies are at an early and critical stage of development. Umoja is a new umbrella organization that is working to mobilize, strengthen, and empower community and private conservancies. Different from the Uganda government’s approach to community conservation, Umoja is promoting a bottom-up approach – where conservancies directly plan for, manage, and benefit from wildlife on their land.
