WASIMA works to protect lions and promote human-wildlife coexistence in western Tanzania through innovative community-based approaches. Their work focuses on reducing human-wildlife conflict while supporting pastoral livelihoods in important wildlife corridors.
The organization implements multiple programs including: human-wildlife conflict mitigation; community ranger support; livestock protection; and sustainable grazing management. They work closely with local communities to develop practical solutions that enable pastoralists and predators to coexist.
Through their efforts, WASIMA has significantly reduced livestock losses to predators, improved grazing practices, and built strong community support for conservation. Their work has demonstrated effective approaches to promoting coexistence between people and wildlife in challenging landscapes.
