Umoja works to strengthen and expand community-led conservation across Uganda through innovative approaches that ensure local benefits from conservation. Their work focuses on building effective local institutions for natural resource management while supporting sustainable development.

The organization provides various support services including: conservancy establishment and strengthening; capacity building; enterprise development; and policy advocacy. They work to coordinate conservation support while ensuring communities receive maximum benefits from wildlife and tourism.

Through their efforts, Umoja has helped establish and strengthen numerous community conservation areas, developed successful conservation enterprises, and contributed to improved natural resource governance. Their work has demonstrated effective approaches to community-based conservation in challenging contexts.
