Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association ‘State of Conservancies Report’ documents the progress and growth of conservancies in Taita Taveta over the past five years, as a key element of the overall momentum behind conservancies in Kenya. In this region, part of the greater Tsavo Conservation Area, there are 40 Conservancies covering over 500,000 hectares of land under conservation and supporting nearly 42,000 beneficiary landowners.

The Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association (TTWCA) works to strengthen and coordinate community conservation efforts across Kenya’s Taita Taveta landscape. As an umbrella organization, they support the development and management of wildlife conservancies while ensuring communities benefit from conservation.

TTWCA implements multiple programs including: conservancy establishment and strengthening; rangeland management; human-wildlife conflict mitigation; and sustainable enterprise development. They work to secure critical wildlife habitat while ensuring local communities can maintain their livelihoods and benefit from conservation.

The organization has helped establish and support numerous conservancies, protecting thousands of hectares of wildlife habitat while generating benefits for local communities. Their work has demonstrated effective approaches to coordinating community conservation efforts across a vital wildlife landscape.

Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
