Partner stage: Active
Region: East Africa

Sea Sense works to protect Tanzania’s marine biodiversity through innovative community-based approaches. Their work focuses on threatened marine species and their habitats while supporting sustainable coastal livelihoods.

The organization implements multiple programs including: sea turtle conservation; dugong protection; coral reef monitoring; and sustainable fisheries development. They work closely with coastal communities to develop conservation strategies that protect marine life while supporting local livelihoods.

Through their efforts, Sea Sense has helped protect numerous sea turtle nesting sites, improved marine resource management practices, and built strong community support for marine conservation. Their work has demonstrated effective approaches to combining marine conservation with sustainable coastal development.

Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
