"One person alone cannot create change, but together, we can shape a future where every Maasai girl has the right to learn, lead, and thrive.” Maanda Ngoitiko, Executive Director of PWC

The Pastoral Women’s Council (PWC) works to empower Maasai women in northern Tanzania through integrated programs that combine women’s rights, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation. Their approach recognizes that women’s empowerment is crucial for both community development and effective conservation.

PWC implements comprehensive programs including: women’s economic empowerment; land rights advocacy; education support; and sustainable rangeland management. They work to strengthen women’s voices in community decision-making while developing sustainable approaches to pastoral development.

Through their efforts, PWC has helped thousands of women establish successful enterprises, secure land rights, and participate in community conservation initiatives. Their work has demonstrated how women’s empowerment can drive both social development and environmental protection in pastoral areas.

Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
