OELO works to protect Gabon’s vital freshwater ecosystems and surrounding forests through innovative conservation approaches. Operating in the Ogooué River basin, they focus on preserving critical habitats while supporting sustainable resource use by local communities.
The organization implements various programs including: wetland protection; sustainable fisheries management; forest conservation; and environmental education. Their work combines scientific research with practical conservation actions that engage local communities in natural resource management.
Since its establishment, OELO has successfully protected significant areas of wetland and forest habitat, improved fishing practices in numerous communities, and built strong local support for conservation. Their work has contributed to both biodiversity protection and sustainable development in one of Central Africa’s most important freshwater ecosystems.
