Ocean Revolution Mozambique is restoring marine ecosystems and revitalizing coastal livelihoods by blending traditional knowledge with modern science. In 2024, ORM restored 3,420m² of seagrass and 15 hectares of mangroves, supported nearly 1,000 community members through savings groups, and helped 100 households diversify incomes—demonstrating how healthy oceans can drive sustainable development.

Ocean Revolution Mozambique works to protect marine ecosystems along Mozambique’s coast through innovative community-based approaches. Their work combines traditional knowledge with modern conservation techniques to create effective marine protection systems.

The organization implements multiple programs including: locally managed marine areas; sustainable fisheries development; marine research and monitoring; and alternative livelihood initiatives. They work closely with coastal communities to develop conservation strategies that protect marine resources while supporting local livelihoods.

Through their efforts, Ocean Revolution has helped establish several locally managed marine areas, improved fishing practices in numerous communities, and contributed to the protection of threatened marine species. Their work has demonstrated effective approaches to community-based marine conservation while supporting sustainable coastal livelihoods.

Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
