Grevy’s Zebra Trust (GZT) is dedicated to the conservation of the endangered Grevy’s zebra across northern Kenya. Working in some of Kenya’s most remote and challenging landscapes, GZT combines cutting-edge science with traditional knowledge to protect this iconic species while supporting the pastoralist communities who share their habitat.
The organization implements comprehensive conservation programs including: population monitoring and research; rangeland restoration; community ranger programs; and sustainable grazing initiatives. Their innovative Grevy’s Zebra Warriors program empowers local women to become conservation leaders, while their rangeland management work helps both wildlife and livestock thrive in this arid landscape.
GZT has achieved significant conservation impact, contributing to the stabilization of Grevy’s zebra populations in their core areas, restoring thousands of hectares of degraded rangeland, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for hundreds of community members. Their work has demonstrated how single-species conservation can drive broader ecosystem protection and community development.
