Fanamby is one of Madagascar’s leading homegrown conservation organizations, working with communities to sustain over 500,000 hectares across six protected areas spread around the country. Across these landscapes, full of endemic species, key achievements include reducing forest loss by 50% over the past year (Andrafiamena Andavakoera); reforesting 383 hectares (Anjozorobe Angavo); and supporting 12 Village Savings and Loan Associations to increase the value of their loans to community members by 55% (Fenerive Est).

Association Fanamby is a pioneering Malagasy organization that protects some of Madagascar’s most biodiverse areas through an innovative combination of protected area management, sustainable agriculture, and community development. Working across multiple critical ecosystems, they focus on creating lasting conservation outcomes that benefit both nature and local communities.

The organization manages several protected areas and implements integrated conservation programs that include: biodiversity monitoring and protection; sustainable agriculture development; ecotourism initiatives; and community health programs. They work closely with local communities to develop alternative income sources that reduce pressure on natural resources while improving livelihoods.

Fanamby has achieved significant conservation impact, protecting over 500,000 hectares of critical wildlife habitat, supporting thousands of families in developing sustainable livelihoods, and contributing to the protection of numerous endangered species including lemurs and baobabs. Their work has demonstrated how effective conservation can drive sustainable development in some of Madagascar’s most challenging contexts.

Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
