Strengthening Tanzania's community-managed conservation areas →

Partner stage: Active
Region: East Africa

CWMAC works to support and strengthen Tanzania’s Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and coastal conservation initiatives through coordinated action and capacity building. As an umbrella organization, they focus on improving the effectiveness and sustainability of community-managed conservation areas across Tanzania.

The organization implements various support programs including: institutional strengthening for WMAs; sustainable resource management training; enterprise development; and policy advocacy. They work to coordinate conservation efforts while ensuring communities receive maximum benefits from wildlife and marine resources.

Through their coordinated approach, CWMAC has helped strengthen numerous Wildlife Management Areas and coastal conservation initiatives, improved governance systems, and developed more effective models for community-based natural resource management. Their work has contributed significantly to building more sustainable and effective community conservation areas across Tanzania.

Maliasili exists to help talented local conservation organizations overcome their challenges and constraints so that they can become more effective agents of change in their landscapes, communities, and nations.
