MMWCA serves as the umbrella organization for wildlife conservancies in Kenya’s Greater Maasai Mara ecosystem, one of Africa’s most important wildlife landscapes. They work to strengthen and expand the conservancy model while ensuring local communities benefit from wildlife conservation.
The organization provides comprehensive support including: conservancy establishment and strengthening; rangeland management; tourism development; and community benefit programs. They work to secure critical wildlife habitat while ensuring pastoralist communities can maintain their traditional livelihoods and benefit from conservation.
Under MMWCA’s leadership, the Mara conservancy movement has grown to protect over 350,000 acres of critical wildlife habitat while providing direct benefits to over 15,000 landowners. Their work has helped establish conservancies as a vital complement to the Maasai Mara National Reserve while creating new models for community-based conservation.
